An RCU MEMBER CARD debit card allows you to make payments for goods and services at point of sale merchants as well as to receive cash or make deposits at ATMs.

How does it work?

When you buy something for less than $100, you can choose to simply hold your card in front of a supporting reader at the checkout. Just hold your card no more than 4 cm in front of the reader until you hear a beep. It’s that easy! Just like any other time you use Interac Debit, your purchase is debited from your bank account.

If your single purchase is over $100, you will be prompted to insert your RCU Debit card and use your PIN. As an added layer of security, there will also be a cumulative spend limit of $200 for Interac Flash® transactions. What is a cumulative spend limit? It's the value of all contactless transactions made with your card since the last time you entered your PIN. When this limit is reached, you will be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN. This will reset your limit so you can continue to use Interac Flash.

Helpful tips when purchasing with your Chip-enabled MEMBER CARD debit card:

  1. Ask the merchant if the terminal supports chip transactions.
  2. If yes, insert the card fully and wait for the prompt.
  3. The cardholder should not allow the merchant to handle their card if the device is chip enabled.
  4. If the terminal is chip enabled, any situation where the merchant swipes the card should be reported by the member to their credit union, along with the details of the location, date and approximate time. The credit union should supply this information for investigation and possible reporting to Interac. This will help the Interac Association to identify merchants that require education on the proper handling of chip transactions or to identify possible fraud.

With this program you can register all of your credit cards with CU Credit so that in the case of a card being lost of stolen, you only have to call this one number.
